On March 28th, nearly 100 youth, parents and leaders
of the Denver-Metro Muslim community gathered at the lovely
Tivoli Student Union in Denver for a fun night or entertainment,
awards, and delicious food. MAS Youth Colorado (MY-CO)
held their 2nd Annual “MAS Youth Family Banquet” which was
planned and executed purely by the youth! MY-CO leaders
worked tireless for months to put this event together by
mailing personal invitations to families, creating
presentations, and arranging for the banquet hall, food and
decorations. Alhamdulilah by the will of Allah, the night was a
hit!
MY-CO leaders and members presented successes of 2008,
and awards* were handed out to youth leaders for their
dedication and hard work. Plans for 2009 were discussed as
well as a presentation emphasizing the growing needs of a
youth, as well as how a new Youth Center could address
these needs. An entertaining mini-auction and fundraiser of
custom gift-baskets helped to cover costs of the event as well
as raise some money for the general youth fund. Guests also
participated in team Jeopardy, and enjoyed the creative skits
and delicious dinner and sweets.
In the end, the youth were honored to get the chance to host
and serve their families, parents and elders all evening.
Everyone left in the hopes of continuing the dialogue further
and in actively taking interest and participating in the youth
programs and in the betterment of the future of our community
and Ummah.
* A special Lifetime Achievement Award was given this
night to Mansur “Abu Ahmed” Habil for his for his steadfast
dedication and commitment to the Youth of Colorado. Abu
Ahmed has contributed immeasurably to the Muslim
community, but it was his special focus, vision and attention
towards the needs of the youth, many years ago, that helped
to initiate and sustain MY-CO and the youth work that
continues today. Abu Ahmed said upon receiving the award
that, “It was only a blessing from Allah that gave me the
opportunity to work for His sake.” We ask Allah to accept from
these good deeds inshAllah and to bring blessings, strength
and health to Abu Ahmed and his family.
The 2nd Annual MAS Youth Family banquet was funded in
part by donations from our generous sponsors: Al-Basheer,
Ilm Wear, Damascus Grill, Flag World, IHOP, and Nejashi
Textiles & Gifts. Please thank them with your support.
